Commitment to the Community

Community Calendar

The MIHS Community Outreach Department works to foster relationships between the health care system and our surrounding communities. Outreach and education programs are designed to target special needs groups in these areas. We understand that in order to further develop these bonds, we must be active. Members of the Community Outreach Department regularly attend community meetings and frequently participate as MIHS representatives to businesses and organizations. MIHS supports the well-being of the community through efforts focused on health, housing, economic development and public safety issues.

If your organization has a community event and would like to participate in our outreach programs, please contact the Community Outreach Department at 602-344-1841.

As you drive down 26th Street and Roosevelt in Phoenix, it is impossible to miss the MIHS main campus. MIHS’s reach, however, extends far beyond the walls of the hospital and even further beyond the eye of the beholder.

Our reach extends into the community through awareness and education programs designed to keep people out of the emergency room. In 2015, MIHS planned and developed 35 public health fairs, bringing health information and screenings to nearly 10,000 participants.

"A day after taking the safety car seat class at the South Central Family Health Center, I was involved in a car accident. Thanks to what I learned in class about how to properly place my daughter in a car seat, she did not have any injuries. The police officer reported that my daughter was correctly secured in her car seat; even the firefighters congratulated me for having my daughter safe in her car seat." – Hermelinda T.

"MIHS plays a critical role in our community by helping parents ensure that their children are not only in the right car seats, but also that those seats are installed properly. They are an essential partner in our quest to reduce the number of preventable child deaths and injuries related to improper use of car seats in Arizona."  – Alberto Gutier, Director of the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
