“Education and training the next generation of healthcare workers is central to what we do at Maricopa. We truly believe your experience in our teaching programs and the atmosphere of multi-disciplinary teams will allow you to excel in your future healthcare goals.” John Hitt, MD, MBA Chief Medical Officer

The Academic Affairs (AA) office is committed to the training of our physicians, students and other allied health individuals that come through Maricopa Integrated Health System (MIHS). The AA office serves over 3,000 healthcare learners, with over 70 different disciplines that range from residents, nursing, allied health professions, paramedics and other various health and technology learners whose experiences can range anywhere from one week to five years on campus. Our goal is to aid and enhance the educational experience of physicians and healthcare learners as they continue their education in their specialty.

Why Residents love MIHS

“I ranked MIHS as my #1 because it's home. The Radiology Department here captured my heart! Most of my rotations as medical student where based at MIHS. I loved and continue to love the supportive environment that we have here which is conducive to learning. The best part is that I get to train at my top program while being surrounded and supported by my family, the people who got me where I am today.” ~Tabarik Al-Abbadi, MD PGY 1-Internal Medicine

“MIHS was more than a residency to me, it was a family. My co-residents and faculty pushed me to be a better doctor, not because it was a competition, but because my patients deserved it. Life is short and where you train means so much in your career and in your happiness. I am happy and proud to have trained at MIHS and I consider it a privilege to be counted as one of their graduates.” ~Christian Dameff, MD Graduate- Emergency Medicine

“I chose MIHS because of the people. Whether it's the physicians and nurses, the volunteers at the front desk, or the cleaning and food service staff, everyone is always welcoming, friendly and goes above and beyond. I enjoy walking into the hospital and being greeted with smiles, and "How are You's" rather than walking silently and avoiding eye contact until I reach my destination. There's a feeling of warmth and family at MIHS, even amidst the dated buildings and hallways. It was this feeling that drew me to want to be a part of this amazing hospital.” ~Dane Van Tassel, MD Graduate-Radiology
