Class Calendar

Nutrition and Health

Nutrition and Your Overweight Child
Is your child overweight for their age? Does he or she suffer from high blood pressure or high bad cholesterol levels? This class may be a good fit for you and your child. Talk with us and your doctor about attending our class! (**Registration is required. Please have your Pediatrician fax a referral to get enrolled in the class to 602-344-0755**)

Mothers For Health Program

Mothers for Health Program, MIHS and ASU College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation are working together on a Walking Club for new mothers.  If you gave birth within the past 6 months at Maricopa Medical Center and are interested in helping us learn about how physical activity after birth may help new mothers to be healthier, please call Rosie Casillas Young at 602-689-9771.

Eating Healthy- Staying Healthy

Are you interested in learning about the six food groups?  Do you know how much food

is too much?   In this fun class, you and your child will learn the importance of eating balanced and varied meals and getting regular exercise.

Parenting

Parenting Classes with Parenting Arizona

The goal is to provide parents with the knowledge  and skills that will increase their ability to communicate better with their children and to strengthen their relationships.  Class will also discuss many parenting concerns, such as discipline!  Class will be held once each month.  Registration required!

Smart Use of Media

Today's kids are technology natives.  In this workshop PBS Asset 8 will explore ways to make TV and other media a healthy part of early childhood.  Receive ideas, resources, instruction, and a free children's book!

Sesame Street's Healthy Habits for Life

Establishing an early foundation for healthy habits can make them last a lifetime.  Discover ways to help children and families make this healthy start tasty and fun while making it key to children's learning and development.

Education and Safety

ESL for Spanish Language Speakers.

ESL classes will be temporarily suspended. Please call the FLC so we can add you to our wait list.  We will advise you when classes begin.

Empower Hour!
Attention Parents! You are invited to a discussion…Make better informed decisions. Make decisions about partner relations. Develop your self esteem. Keep your family and yourself safe from HIV/AIDS and STD’s.

Let’s Play Some Lotería…The Bingo Game of Life.
Come with your whole family and play a few rounds of La Lotería while you learn how you can save someone’s life! Women's Self- Defense/Rape Prevention

This event is designed to develop a general awareness and self defense skills for women and girls over 12 years old.  Registration Required!

Burn Prevention Week

Did you know that Burns are reported to be the second leading cause of death for children aged 0 to 5?   Come and learn how you and your children can be "burn smart".  Participate in different activities such as burn smart workshops, video watching and a special visit from Phoenix Fire Department!

Personal Improvement

Mariposa

Mariposa is a weekly support group for Hispanic Women who suffer from or are recovering from abusive relationships.  This support group is run by trained bilingual staff.  This group is confidential and held in a private meeting room.  Please call the FLC at 602-344-1352 or Yolanda at 602-344-5976 for more information.

Mamas Saludables-Familias Saludables

A Support Group For Women Suffering  From Postpartum Depression. Self care, Resources, Nutrition, Infant Development and more are discussed.
