Twin Birth Study
Summary: This research study will compare “planned vaginal birth” to “planned C-section”
Inclusion Criteria: Twins gestational age 32 – 38 weeks with twin A in cephalic position.  Estimated weight of each fetus 1,500 – 4,000g.
Exclusion: 1.- Lethal fetal anomaly of either fetus. 2.-. Contraindication to labour or vaginal delivery of either twin. Monoamniotic twins (monochorionic twins are not excluded from the study; however centres should confirm chorionicity by placental pathology for all same sex twins after delivery so that subgroup analyses can be undertaken for monochorionic and dichorionic twins)

Inclusion Criteria: Hispanic, currently sedentary, can hear and respond to questions

Coregulatory Processes and Postpartum Depression in Mexican-Americans
Summary: To study the adjustment of new mothers, the interactions between mothers and their babies, and feelings, actions, and bodily responses.
Inclusion Criteria: Self-identified Mexican-American low-income women aged 18 years and older and are pregnant with their first child, in a singleton pregnancy.
Exclusion Criteria: Mothers with non-singleton and/or non-healthy babies will be followed for depression only.

Phase II Trial of Polyphenon E for Cervical Cancer Prevention
Summary: Study of effects of green tea extract capsules (Polyphenon E) vs. placebo on HPV, cells of cervix,and risk for cervical cancer.
Inclusion Criteria: Women 18 years of age or older with a 6-12 month history of Low grade/ HPV disease of the cervix.
Exclusion Criteria: Younger than 18, HIV positive, prior cancer or pelvic irradiation

Early Detection of Drug Resistance in Ovarian Cancer
 Summary:
Examining genomic abnormalities associated with the development of resistance to platinum and taxame drug therapies in women with ovarian cancer
Inclusion Criteria: Women 18 yrs of age or older, diagnosis of pelvic mass (suggestive of primary ovarian malignancy), able to provide written informed consent.
Exclusion Criteria: Patients who have previously had a bilateral oophrectomy, patients with recurrent ovarian cancer for which collection of primary tumor specimen is not available

CT Evaluation of Placental
Summary: To investigate if CT imaging can relieably detect placental injuries in acute blunt trauma of pregnant women.
Inclusion Criteria: Pregnant patients, positive B-HCG, Level I or II trauma.
Exclusion Criteria: Hemodynamically unstable patients, patients taken directly to the OR, fetal demise.

HSIL: Incidence and spontaneous regression
Summary: To determine the incidence of High Grade Squamous Intra-Epithelial Lesion (HSIL) result from Pap testing in young women compare to older women in our clinic population.
Inclussion Criteria: Women 21 years and younger; who underwent Pap testing between January 2005 and December 2006. The data from these young women will be compared with data from older women (older than 22 years).

Seroconversion of Hepatitis B Non-Immune Pregnant Women
Summary: Examining the seroconversion rates among pregnant women who receive the hepatitis B vaccine (in comparison to the rates in a non-pregnant population)
Inclusion Criteria: Pregnant women 20 years of age or older, EGA 12-24 weeks, presenting for routine prenatal visit, planning on continued care at WCC
Exclusion Criteria: Outside age or EGA range, history of organ transplant, HIV positive, history of yeast allergy

Adolescent Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Awareness
Summary: To assess the level of awareness and knowledge concerning Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in patients seeking well-woman care at Maricopa Integrated Health System (MIHS)
Inclusion Criteria: Female patients, new ob or annual exam, age 13 to 26 years old attending the Women’s Care Clinic or the Maryvale, Mesa, Chandler or South Central Family Healthcare Centers.
Exclusion Criteria: Patients < 13 years old and > 26 years old

Incidental Pathologic Finding Of Chronic Cervicitis In Pelvic Pain Patients Receiving Hysterectomies
 Summary:
To determine whether or not an incidental finding of chronic cervicitis on final pathologic diagnosis can be attributed to pain alleviation in patients receiving total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH), laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH), or total vaginal hysterectomy (TVH) for pelvic pain contributed to patients’ postoperative pain alleviation.
Inclusion Criteria: Female patients who underwent total laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy, or total vaginal hysterectomy for pelvic pain without a prior diagnosis of chronic cervicitis or other histology-proven condition for their pain.

Implications of Growth Factor Signaling in Endometriosis
Summary: To investigate cell signaling mediated by growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-1, and epidermal growth factor in endometriosis
Inclusion Criteria: Pre-menopausal women who underwent gynecologic surgery.
Exclusion Criteria: Pregnant women, minors under age 18, and patients who received any hormonal treatment within the 3 months prior to this study.

Progesterone Receptors and Control of Human Myometrial Contractility
Summary: To provide fundamental understanding of the mechanisms by which progesterone controls myometrial cell function and the development of novel strategies to prevent preterm
Inclusion Criteria: Non-pregnant premenopausal and postmenopausal women undergoing hysterectomy for benign gynecological conditions; term pregnant myometrium undergoing elective caesarean section at term; term laboring myometrium undergoing cesarean section at term; and preterm nonlaboring and laboring myometrium undergoing C-section.
Exclusion Criteria: Women younger than 18 years of age as well as incarcerated women.

Inhibition Of Uterine Contractility During Pregnancy With Progesterone, Sodium Nitroprusside Or Their Combination
Summary: To compare the effects of progesterone (P4) to sodium nitroprusside (SNP, an NO donor) on human uterine contractility in vitro and to determine if there are either additive or synergistic effects of the two compounds when used together during pregnancy.
Inclusion Criteria: Term women not in labor having a caesarean section.
Exclusion Criteria: Preterm or post dates women, women in labor, or vaginal delivery.
