Administrative Director MIHS Medical Imaging Joins Leadership Building Effort
February 9, 2005 - Laura McKay, administrative director of medical imaging at Maricopa Integrated Health System [MIHS] has been named serve on an 18-member panel to foster and promote solid leadership in the health care industry. The program is called Building the Leadership Bench for Arizona Hospitals and is endorsed by the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association [AzHHA].
Within the next five years, 20-30 percent of hospital and health system leaders in Arizona will be retiring, taking with them a wealth of knowledge and experience that will leave an incredible leadership gap.
Recognizing the need to develop the next generation of health care leaders was the catalyst behind AzHHA's decision to launch a comprehensive, eight month long initiative to develop tomorrow's leaders. McKay was selected as a promising and developing leader to represent MIHS. James Kennedy, M.D., chief medical officer will serve as her mentor throughout the program.
Laura has over 15 years of experience in healthcare, starting her career at Scottsdale Healthcare after receiving her associate's degree in medical radiography. She has been involved with professional societies as well as community events on a national and local level. Laura started at Maricopa Integrated Health System as the administrative director of medical imaging in 2000. She received her master's degree in business administration from the University of St. Francis in 2004.
Laura and the other 17 participants will become effective leaders in competencies such as strategic thinking and visioning; inspiration, trust and credibility; achieving business goals; advocating for healthcare; board effectiveness; and leading culture change. The program will take participants through 360 assessments, executive coaching and mentoring, immersion studies in health policy formation, board relations, and quality/patient safety.
