Maricopa Integrated Health System Will Host National HIV / AIDS Expert During Its Annual Obstetrics Converence

Dr. Bernard Branson from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will discuss the latest techniques used to prevent mother-to-infant transmission of AIDS / HIV - May 1, 2006

Statistics provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that providing treatment to HIV infected mothers during pregnancy reduces the transmission rate from 25 percent to about two percent.

With more than 880 women of child bearing age living with HIV-AIDS in Maricopa County, Arizona Department of Health Services statistics clearly indicate that Arizona is not immune from the HIV-AIDS pandemic.

As the largest teaching hospital in the Valley, Maricopa Integrated Health System is committed to educating health care professionals.

At 2:30 p.m. today Maricopa Integrated Health System will host Dr. Bernard Branson, associate director of Laboratory Diagnostics in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, at the CDC. Dr. Branson will share his expertise regarding HIV-AIDS with more than 150 health care professionals from across Arizona.
