Goals:
Observe and participate in women’s preventative health and family planning.

Format:
Students can expect to obtain patient history and perform physical exams including pelvic exams, they will observe and be involved in clinic procedures such as IUD insertion, placement of subdermal contraceptive and Gyn ultrasound.
Outpatient clinic rounds; Readings provided by attending, no overnight call requirement; 2-4 didactic conferences on Fridays.

Evaluation Methods:
A written evaluation of student performance in both clinical settings will be provided by the attending staff. Evaluations will include assessment of knowledge base, knowledge acquisition and clinical performance. Evaluations will be reviewed with the student. Written evaluation of the rotation by the student will be requested so that the elective can be improved.

Prerequisites: Obstetrics & Gynecology Core Clerkship

Goals:
This program in Obstetrics & Gynecology is designed to further enhance the basic skills learned in the Core Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship. The students will obtain a broad experience, which is designed, not only to enhance the student’s ability to care for the female patient, but also should be advantageous in assisting his/her personal delineation of career goals.

Format:
An in-depth clinical experience in Obstetrics & Gynecology along with scheduled weekly conferences. The students will be an integral part of the health care team with the residents, allied health professionals and faculty on daily rounds, direct patient care, and didactic conferences. Night call is an important part of the rotation and will offer a learning experience where the student may further develop their diagnostic and patient management skills.

Evaluation Methods:
The student will be evaluated in writing by the faculty and housestaff utilizing direct observations. The student will also have the opportunity to discuss the rotation throughout the time of their experience and will provide a personal evaluation of the course.

Goals:
To expand knowledge in the field of gynecologic oncology and enhance basic skills in surgical anatomy.

Format:
The clerkship will be balanced with time spent in the operating room, didactic conferences, outpatient clinics and private office setting. All activities of the student will be under the supervision of the resident staff and full-time faculty.

Evaluation Methods:
Direct observation by faculty physicians and housestaff with written evaluations which will be discussed with the medical student. The medical student will also evaluate the faculty, housestaff and rotation experience.

Prerequisites: Obstetrics & Gynecology Core Clerkship

Goals:
To expand knowledge in the field of maternal fetal medicine and expose students to high risk and serious complications in the obstetric population. Medical student will become involved in the diagnosis and management of at-risk patients and participate as an active member of the maternal fetal management team.

Format:
The clerkship will be balanced with time spent in the antenatal testing center, ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis, didactic conferences and morning rounds with the high risk obstetrics team. In addition, the student will observe in the evaluation and performance of the office high risk procedures on patients assigned to the maternal fetal management team. All student activities will be under the supervision of the resident staff and full-time faculty.

Direct observation by faculty physicians and housestaff with written evaluations which will be discussed with the medical student. The medical student will also evaluate the faculty, housestaff and rotation experience.

Goals:
Students will have the opportunity to spend clinical time in different OBGYN specialty ambulatory clinics with exposure to (refugee, teen transgender, internatal, gynecologic ultrasound, substance abuse, gynecologic surgery, Uro surgery, maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology).

 

Format:
Outpatient clinic rounds; Readings provided by attending of the different clinics, no overnight call requirement; 2-4 didactic conferences on Fridays.

Prerequisites: Completed general Ob/Gyn core rotation

Goals:
Observe and participate in women’s imaging.

Format:
Students will spend time in the clinic and on the ward assisting in the performance and interpretation of obstetric and gynecologic imaging with members of the Ob/Gyn and Radiology Departments. There will be a special emphasis on point-of-care obstetric ultrasound examination and recognition of common gynecologic pathology using ultrasound.

Evaluation Methods:
Direct observation by faculty physicians and house staff with written evaluations which will be discussed with the medical student. The medical student will also evaluate the faculty, house staff, and rotation experience.
