Community Outreach
At
Phoenix Cancer Center, the boundaries of our “community” reach far
beyond the neighborhoods surrounding our facility in Central Phoenix. To meet
this need, we offer our services not only to the physician in need of expert advice
on oncology and hematology but also to the person in need of cancer information
or a second opinion.
The Cancer Center’s outreach programs, many of which
are done in collaboration with other institutions and community organizations,
are focused on increasing access to cancer health care and improving the health
status of under-served populations in Maricopa County.
We believe access to information and guidance should available
to all. We make this possible by community seminars,
articles, press briefings and internet communication. We also do our part by being
a major source for physician education in the community by tumor board, conferences
and workshops.
We are affiliated with a mobile breast cancer-screening
program for Hispanic women wherein a mobile van has been going to various areas
for mammography. We provide tertiary breast care to all women with positive findings.
We are in concert with the American Cancer Society to provide
free literature, wigs for cancer related hair loss, augmented bras for mastectomy
patients and transportation help.
