John Post, M.D. was honored at the 27th Annual Dr. R. Alice Drought Caring Spirit Awards Luncheon from the Area Agency on Aging, receiving an award for HIV Service on Friday, October 3rd. John Post is the Medical Director for the McDowell Healthcare Center. Dr. Post has been the Medical Director of the McDowell Healthcare Center for more than 18 years. As the Medical Director, Dr. Post was responsible for either directly providing or overseeing 14,000 medical visits last year at the clinic. At the Award Luncheon, a video was shared that gives us a glimpse of the commitment and dedication that John has for serving our customers.

BUS CARD CHANGES
The federal program that manages Ryan White funds is requiring us to make changes in the way we distribute bus cards to our clients. Unfortunately, as a result of these mandatory changes, some people who have received bus cards from Care Directions in the past may not be able to do so.
There have been additional changes to the Bus Card Program:
Ryan White Part A Support Services are now included as an eligible service for bus card utilization.
APIPA is now the only AHCCCS plan that offers bus cards. Clients on any other AHCCCS plan can utilize the RW bus card program (assuming they meet other eligibility criteria).

Taxis are available for medical, dental, mental health, substance abuse treatment and nutritional counseling appointment if you meet the following criteria:
Current proof of income, residency and diagnosis on the file:
Income under $2600/month
No other way to get to the appointment (AHCCCS, ALTCS, private transportation, bus):
Ryan White Planning Council Standards of Care (health issues, safety concerns, traveling with children, extreme weather)
When you call the Taxi Line, if you meet the above criteria your taxi will be ordered. If there are any eligibility issues, you will be referred to your case manager for help.
If you receive case management services from an agency other than Care Directions, your case manager needs to call the Taxi Line to request a taxi for you.
Please remember to call at least 24 hours in advance when you need a taxi.
Social Security For People Living With HIV/AIDS If you have HIV/AIDS and cannot work, you may qualify for disability benefits from the Social Security Administration. Your disability must be expected to last at least a year or end in death, and must be serious enough to prevent you from doing substantial gainful work. The amount of earnings we consider substantial and gainful changes each year. For the current figure, refer to the annual Update (Publication No.05-10003). If your child has HIV/AIDS, he or she may be able to get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) if your household income is low enough. See Attachment
